NTT-ME to start cut-rate IP phone service for ADSL subscribers
TOKYO, Japan - NTT-ME Corp., a Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. arm, said June 28 it will offer a new type of Internet-based phone service for subscribers of the NTT group's asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) service without charging them for the length of phone calls, starting in September. Those ADSL subscribers will be asked to pay only a monthly basic fee of some 1,100 yen if the subscribers talk to each other through compact phone handsets connected to personal computers.
