Foreign Ministry's ex-Russian expert pleads not guilty

TOKYO, Japan - Masaru Sato, a former Russian affairs expert at the Foreign Ministry, enters the Tokyo District Court building on Sept. 17 to attend the first hearing of a trial linked to arrested lawmaker Muneo Suzuki. Sato pleaded not guilty to charges of misusing state funds and conspiracy to rig the bidding for a public tender. (Kyodo)

        On April 15, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike requested the cooperation of Tokyo residents and businesses in accordance with the Act on Special Measures against the New Coronavirus, after an expert panel raised the status of the new coronavirus infection in Tokyo to the most serious of four evaluation levels. Governor Koike said, "The metropolitan government is in a state of 'infection spread alert,'" and called on people to refrain from going out of the city and avoid using stores in downtown areas at night without adequate infection control measures. I hope (the government) will carefully reconsider the timing and method of implementation.
