New speaker built into LCD developed
TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows a personal computer incorporating what is claimed to be the world's first-ever speaker built into a liquid crystal display (LCD) unveiled Sept. 17 by NEC Corp. The new speaker, jointly developed by Authentic Ltd. and NEC AccessTechnica Ltd., produces sound by vibrating the surface of an LCD. With the use of the new speaker, PC users can feel as if the person on the display is actually speaking because the sound comes directly from the display, the companies said. (Kyodo)
