Japan test-flies jet vehicle for own shuttle program
CHRISTMAS ISLAND, Kiribati - An unmanned jet-powered vehicle successfully landed by automatic pilot on a runway on Christmas Island in Kiribati on Oct. 18 after flying on a scheduled path. The National Aeronautical Laboratory and the National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA) flew the vehicle in a test aimed at developing Japan's own version of a space shuttle.
