Court rejects 1st suit against automakers over exhaust
TOKYO, Japan - Two plaintiffs hold banners reading ''We won the suit'' after the Tokyo District Court ordered the central government, the Tokyo metropolitan government, and the state-run Metropolitan Expressway Public Corp. to pay the 99 plaintiffs a combined 79.2 million yen in compensation for causing health problems through motor exhaust gas. The court rejected their damages suit lodged against automobile manufacturers, the first in Japan. (Kyodo)
