Prizewinning Mainichi writer Takeshi Sato dies at 60
TOKYO, Japan - File photo shows Takeshi Sato, a prizewinning special features writer for the Mainichi Shimbun who chronicled his battle with esophageal cancer and died of the disease at a Tokyo hospital Dec. 28, his family said. He was 60. Sato won the coveted Kan Kikuchi prize for a series of articles about religion in modern society from an anthropological point of view. Even after being diagnosed as suffering from a terminal case of esophageal cancer, he kept writing about his bout with the disease. (Kyodo)
