Toshiba develops new fuel cell for PCs

TOKYO, Japan - Toshiba Corp. said March 5 it has developed a prototype fuel cell (in handout photo) for a portable personal computer that may end reliance on rechargeable batteries. The small form factor direct methanol fuel cell, which the company claims is the first of its kind in the world, has a maximum output of 20 watts and can run about five hours on a single fuel cartridge. Toshiba will continue developing the technology for the new fuel cell with the aim of commercializing it by the end of 2004. (Kyodo)
