Higuchi speaks of honor

TOKYO, Japan - Hisako Higuchi, head of the Ladies Professional Golfers' Association of Japan (JLPGA), speaks at a news conference in Tokyo on May 2 of her joy of being inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame for the first time from Asia. ''I'm extremely happy and honored since the induction is not only the first in Japan but also in Asia. With this as a launching pad, I hope (Japanese) golf will see further development,'' said Higuchi, winner of 72 titles to her credit. (Kyodo)

TOKYO, Japan - The late Teruo Sugihara (L) and Ayako Okamoto, shown in these undated file photos, are among the four players chosen to be inducted into the Japan Professional Golf Hall of Fame at a ceremony set for February 2015. Sugihara won 63 times worldwide in a career spanning more than 50 years. Okamoto, who won 17 times on the U.S. LPGA tour, was voted into the World Hall of Fame in 2005.

Okamoto to be inducted into Hall of Fame

TOKYO, Japan - Ayako Okamoto, the 54-year-old Japanese golfer, expressed excitement on May 23 over her scheduled induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame in Augustine, Florida. Okamoto is the third Japanese to join the Hall of Fame following the inductions of Hisako Higuchi in 2003 and Isao Aoki in 2004, and has plans to attend an induction ceremony in Florida on Nov. 14.
