Local gov't leaders approve resumption of TEPCO reactor

NIIGATA, Japan - Niigata Gov. Ikuo Hirayama (R), Kashiwazaki Mayor Masazumi Saikawa (C) and Hiroo Shinada (L), head of Kariwa village, hold talks at the Niigata prefectural office on May 7. They approved the resumption of operations at the No. 6 reactor in Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO)'s Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear plant on the Sea of Japan coast. The reactor is one of 17 TEPCO nuclear reactors that were shut down following a defect cover-up scandal. (Kyodo)
