Ibaraki Pref. begins dismantling stranded N. Korean freighter

MITO, Japan - Work begins May 27 to dismantle the North Korean cargo ship Chil Song that has been stranded since December off Hitachi in the prefecture. The 3,144-ton ship broke into two parts in March, with fuel remaining in the vessel spilling and reaching preseason Pacific coastal beaches in the eastern Japan prefecture. (Kyodo)

The cylindrical 3.3-ton device used for fuel exchange fell inside the reactor vessel in August 2010.
