Nobuyasu Abe to head U.N. disarmament department from July
NEW YORK, United States - U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan has named Nobuyasu Abe (file photo), Japan's ambassador to Saudi Arabia, as undersecretary general in charge of the U.N. Department for Disarmament Affairs, the U.N. press office said on May 28. Abe, 57, who succeeds Undersecretary General for Disarmament Affairs Jayantha Dhanapula, will take up the position on July 1.
