Sanyo to sell refrigerators from joint development with Haier

OSAKA, Japan - Sanyo Electric Co. said May 29 it will begin selling refrigerators (in handout photo) made through its joint development with Haier Group Co., China's largest home appliance maker, on July 1 under the Haier brand. The refrigerators are the first outcome of the two companies' business tie-up agreement concluded in January 2002. (Kyodo)

            Foxter Corporation (Toyonaka City, Osaka Prefecture) will release in May a hybrid image processing system that combines Preferred Networks' (PFN, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo) artificial intelligence (AI) visual inspection and conventional image processing methods.The company will market the system in Japan and China in cooperation with a subsidiary of the OPTEX Group, which is engaged in the manufacture of lighting for image processing, in terms of sales and service. The sales target is 200 units a year. Auto parts manufacturers and others have already begun to introduce the system on a trial basis.               Hokuriku Electric Power's "Assist Arm" robot for power distribution work

              Hokuriku Electric Power Company has completed the development of the "Assist Arm" (photo), a robot for power distribution work, and has begun deploying it. The robot will assist in the construction work, which used to be done by two people in a high-altitude work truck, enabling the work to be done by one person. This is the first time such a robot has been used in Japan. The company plans to adopt 10 more robots, including those of group companies, by the end of fiscal year 2019. The robots will be used for the most frequent part of the power distribution work, the wire separator work. In the past, high-voltage wires were cut and the cut wires were connected to each other with a temporary equipment called a wire separator by lifting a stick-shaped tool weighing about 10 kilograms. The robot will be able to cut wires and grab objects with an arm that can move in six axes with a single control grip, saving labor.                 Screen Speworks (Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture) has developed a tablet powder remover that removes powder that adheres to tablets when they are formed. The machine can process 300,000 tablets in one hour and reduce the adhesion rate to about 0.5% per tablet. The selling price is still under adjustment, and the company plans to sell the machine to pharmaceutical companies and confectionery manufacturers. When raw powder is compressed to form tablets, uncompressed powder adheres to the surface of the tablet. The powder may adhere to the lens of the camera during inspection, causing problems. The powder removal machine developed by SCREEN SPE Works uses air to remove the powder, so there is less risk of damage. Atsuhiro Hayashi, leader of the New Business Development Group, said, "Before we can commercialize the product, we need to have it evaluated by actual users.
