MINAMATA, Japan - An abandoned car stands buried in mudslides in Minamata, Kumamoto Prefecture on July 19. The Minamata municipal office has set up a disaster countermeasures office and issued an evacuation advisory for the entire city. (Kyodo)

        On April 15, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike requested the cooperation of Tokyo residents and businesses in accordance with the Act on Special Measures against the New Coronavirus, after an expert panel raised the status of the new coronavirus infection in Tokyo to the most serious of four evaluation levels. Governor Koike said, "The metropolitan government is in a state of 'infection spread alert,'" and called on people to refrain from going out of the city and avoid using stores in downtown areas at night without adequate infection control measures. I hope (the government) will carefully reconsider the timing and method of implementation.                 Toyota's Distribution Information Improvement Department has already introduced Toppan Forms' IC tags for location management to improve the efficiency of new car warehousing and inspection. It will be easier to increase the number of readers used in the vast new car yard, leading to further improvement in operational efficiency. The system can also be used as a stationary reader. The company expects to use the tags in office operations such as product lending/returning and tallying operations, and is aware that the tags will be adopted not only at manufacturing sites but also at dealerships.                   The current test vehicle, the L0 Series, is the first commercial version and recorded the world's fastest speed of 603 km/h in 2003. The improved test car shown to the public has a new top shape. In the L0, the front lighting and forward vision camera on the top of the car were moved to the top. Another feature of the L0 is that the gas turbine power generator required for the test line has been eliminated, and only the induction current collection system, which is the target for the commercial specification, is used to supply electricity.                       Kyushu Electric Power signs LNG bunkering contracts for coal with two shipping companies

                      The cost of the project and the share of the cost with Kyushu Electric Power Co. will not be disclosed. The two shipping companies mentioned the spread of LNG-fueled vessels. Hitoshi Nagasawa, president of Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK), said, "We will basically use LNG-fueled vessels for car carriers. Junichiro Ikeda, president of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), expressed his willingness to work on infrastructure development, including fuel supply. The fuel will be supplied by Kyushu Electric Company (Tobata Ward, Kitakyushu City) at its onshore shipping facilities. Kyushu Electric will also consider cultivating other customers and supplying them with coal.
