Japan Post to issue cards adopting Sony's Edy e-money system

TOKYO, Japan - Japan Post and the Sony Corp. group will jointly issue postal savings cards compatible with Sony's Edy electronic money system (in photo), starting Aug. 11, the operator of the system said Aug. 4. The postal card will enable users to pay for products by holding the card over a reading device installed at convenience stores and other retailers. (Kyodo)

Foxter's Hybrid Image Processing System for AI Visual Inspection

Foxter Corporation (Toyonaka City, Osaka Prefecture) will release in May a hybrid image processing system that combines Preferred Networks' (PFN, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo) artificial intelligence (AI) visual inspection and conventional image processing methods.The company will market the system in Japan and China in cooperation with a subsidiary of the OPTEX Group, which is engaged in the manufacture of lighting for image processing, in terms of sales and service. The sales target is 200 units a year. Auto parts manufacturers and others have already begun to introduce the system on a trial basis. Fujitsu Advanced Engineering's system for sorting bulk goods

FUJITSU ADVANCED ENGINEERING LIMITED (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo) has developed a system that allows users to remotely control picking robots as if they were playing a game, and to sort bulk goods that are difficult to recognize automatically. The robot's field of vision is displayed on a tablet terminal, and when the user clicks on an item, the robot picks it up and picks it. The company aims to commercialize the system in fiscal 2021. The operator clicks on products on a tablet or other device according to instructions. Then, robots in distribution warehouses and factories aim at the click point and suck the suction cup. The system is expected to be used not only by telecommuters but also for light work during hospitalization and cognitive training for the elderly.
