(1) KDDI unveils new cell phone

TOKYO, Japan - KDDI Corp. President Tadashi Onodera shows off a new cellular photo at a news conference in Tokyo on Oct. 22. KDDI said that starting Nov. 28 it will offer a new service enabling users of its ''au'' mobile phone service to transmit and receive data at a speed equivalent to that provided by an asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) connection. KDDI said it will introduce a flat rate for packet transmission, giving users of the new service unlimited access to the Internet for a fee of 4,200 yen a month. (Kyodo)

The new company, Palantir Technologies Japan (Chuo Ward, Tokyo), is 50% owned by Palantir and 50% by SOMPOHD. It will be capitalized at 100 million dollars (about 10.8 billion yen), and aims to achieve sales of 100 billion yen in the medium to long term. President Kengo Sakurada expressed his hope that the company will pursue its dream of becoming a real data platformer.
