(1)Trial of AUM founder wraps up with claim of innocence
TOKYO, Japan - The trial of AUM Shinrikyo cult founder Shoko Asahara (in file photo) concluded on Oct. 31 with his defense team claiming he is innocent of masterminding a string of gruesome crimes, including the 1995 gas attack on the Tokyo subway system. In the last hearing of the trial at the Tokyo District Court, Asahara, 48, refused to speak to his state-appointed lawyers or answer questions in court, as he had done throughout most of his trial on murder and other charges for the last seven and a half years.
