Pioneer female voice actor Kato dies at 84
TOKYO, Japan - Pioneer female voice actor Michiko Kato (in photo taken in 1998) died of pancreatic cancer at a Tokyo hospital Jan. 31, her family said. She was 84. A native of Tokyo, Kato became one of the first trainees of a Japan Broadcasting Corp. (NHK) voice actor training center in 1941 and served as a presenter for a team of female singers in NHK's first annual year-end singing contest pitting men against women in 1951. (Kyodo)
