Japanese developer devises OS for nonstandard characters
TOKYO, Japan - Displayed on a computer screen is a list of Nonstandard kanji characters are often found in names of people and places as well as literary works. University of Tokyo Professor Ken Sakamura, the developer of the Tron computer operating system, said March 10 he has developed a technology to show nonstandard Japanese kanji characters even on Western operating systems such as Windows and Macintosh. ''The new technology can drastically save energy... A big company will be able to cut costs by several hundred million yen a year,'' Sakamura said. (Kyodo)
