Kurdish man, family fight deportation order in court

TOKYO, Japan - Zilan, 3-year-old daughter of Taskin, a Kurdish man, and his Filipino wife Beltran, appears at a press conference in Tokyo on March 12 with lawyer Takeshi Ohhashi after Ohhashi, acting on behalf of the three, filed a lawsuit at the Tokyo District Court seeking a reversal of the Justice Ministry's decision to deport them for overstaying their visas. Ex-Red Army Faction member gets 12 yrs for 1970 JAL hijacking

TOKYO, Japan - The Tokyo District Court on Feb. 14 sentenced former Red Army Faction member Yoshimi Tanaka (file photo) to a 12-year jail term for his involvement in the 1970 hijacking of a Japan Airlines plane. Tanaka and eight other Red Army Faction members hijacked the Boeing 727 on March 31, 1970, after it left Tokyo bound for Fukuoka, southwestern Japan.
