Iraqis must be major players in reconstruction efforts: Koizumi

HIROSHIMA, Japan - Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, speaking during a stumping tour of Hiroshima on April 17, says that Iraqis must be the major players in the reconstruction of their strife-ridden country. ''It is not the United States or the United Nations that creates a stable, democratic government (in Iraq), or even Japan. The main actors are the Iraqis themselves,'' Koizumi said. (Kyodo)

    Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force held an international naval fleet review Sunday in the wake of North Korea firing off ballistic missiles at an unprecedented pace, with South Korea's navy participating amid efforts by the two East Asian neighbors to thaw their icy relations.
