TOKYO, Japan - Crown Princess Masako and her daughter Princess Aiko enjoy skiing at Okushigakogen ski resort in Nagano Prefecture. Crown Princess Masako and Princess Aiko stayed there from Feb. 14 to Feb. 19 and Crown Prince Naruhito was with them from Feb. 14 to Feb. 16. The Imperial Household Agency released their video footage and photos on Feb. 21. (Kyodo)

          Takumi Eyes, NTT Communications

          NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) has developed "Takumi Eyes," a system that can identify and track a person even when only the back of the person's head is visible in security camera footage. Using the child's face image and full body image at that time, real-time tracking can be initiated for quick detection. In a demonstration experiment conducted by NTT Com, the detection rate of specific persons was increased from 17% to 82% when using Takumi Eyes in places where visual video surveillance was used. The time required for the security guards to check the video images was also reduced to a quarter because the video checking process was automated.
