Panel to agree in March to exclude young cows from mad cow tests
TOKYO, Japan - The Prion Research Committee of the Food Safety Commission, a government panel in charge of mad cow disease, is in session in Tokyo on March 11. Yasuhiro Yoshikawa, chairman of the committee, indicated after the session that his panel may reach a conclusion later in the mmonth that young cows aged up to 20 months can be excluded from tests for mad cow disease, clearing one of hurdles to lift a 15-month-old ban on U.S. beef imports to Japan.
