Japan denies 2012 deadline for U.S. military realignment

TOKYO, Japan - Chief Cabinet Secretary Shinzo Abe speaks at a press conference on Nov. 10. The top government spokesman dismissed the revelation that Japan and the United States have set a goal of implementing all agreed U.S. military realignment plans in Okinawa by 2012. ''There is no fact of a 2012 deadline,'' Abe said, referring to the revelation made by U.S. Defense Deputy Undersecretary for Asian and Pacific Affairs Richard Lawless in an interview on Nov. 8.
