Gold, silver euro coins with 'Hello Kitty' images to be sold

TOKYO, Japan - Coin-importer Taisei Coins Corp. and Sanrio Co. said on Nov. 29 they will jointly sell three euro coins (in photo) with images of the latter's ''Hello Kitty'' character on them, beginning on Dec. 5. A 1-ounce gold coin with a face value of 50 euros will cost 168,000 yen. A quarter-ounce, 10-euro gold coin will cost 52,500 yen, and a 1.5-euro silver coin will cost 8,400 yen. Images on the coins, made by the Monnaie de Paris minting authority in France, depict ''Hello Kitty'' characters enjoying life in Paris. (Kyodo)

Hello Kitty gold, silver coins to be put on sale in Japan

TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows a 126,000-yen gold coin bearing an image of Hello Kitty and her boyfriend Daniel driving in London, Kitty's hometown. The Cook Islands issued the coin commemorating the 35th anniversary of the birth of the popular feline character and Taisei Coins Corp., a Tokyo-based imported coin trader, will put it on sale from May 25.

The lens and the flash light are built into the kitten's ribbon, while the shutter is on top of the ear. The kitten's face lights up in red when the shutter is pressed. A 5 mega-pixel camera with anti-vibration functions retails in Japan for 26,040 yen.

Sanrio to offer Hello Kitty set for 18.9 million yen

TOKYO, Japan - Sanrio Co. will put on sale a platinum Hello Kitty figure with seven jeweled pendants (photo) for 18.9 million yen at the flagship department store of Mitsukoshi Ltd. in Tokyo's Nihombashi district. Sanrio will offer only one set from Dec. 5. The figure is 5.6 centimeters high and weighs 590 grams, while the pendants include rubies, pink sapphires and diamonds.

Nagoya robot developer to release 'Hello Kitty' robot

TOKYO, Japan - Robot developer Business Design Laboratory Co. unveiled a ''Hello Kitty'' robot on July 12 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the popular feline character developed by Sanrio Co. The robot, which is 52 centimeters tall and weighs 6 kilograms, can recognize up to 10 human faces through a built-in camera. The company will release the robot on Hello Kitty's birthday on Nov. 1 at an expected price of just over 400,000 yen.
