Iwakuni plebiscite on U.S. realignment valid as turnout exceeds

IWAKUNI, Japan - A mother lets her daughter cast her ballot in a referendum in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture, on U.S. military realignment in Japan on March 12. Voter turnout topped 50 percent as of 4 p.m., making the plebiscite valid. (Kyodo)
