40th Tokyo Motor Show opens at Makuhari Messe

CHIBA, Japan - Car fans marvel at new car models on display at the 40th Tokyo Motor Show at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, which opened to the public on Oct. 27. The show, which runs through Nov. 11, features 542 new models, 77 of them displayed for the first time in the world. Admission fees: 1,300 yen for adults, 600 yen for secondary school students, free for primary school pupils and younger children. (Kyodo)

        On April 23, EDION announced that it had acquired all shares of Yumemi (Yodogawa Ward, Osaka City), which operates a children's programming school called "Robodan," making it a subsidiary. The company said the shares were acquired from Akinori Shigemi, president of Yumemiru, and venture capitalists. In December 2018, EDION entered the robot programming education business for elementary and junior high school students, accelerating the expansion of the business in anticipation of making programming education compulsory in elementary schools from fiscal 2008.           Otta will apply the know-how of its service for children to prevent dementia patients from going missing due to wandering. The service will first be offered in Minoh City, Osaka Prefecture, and is expected to be used by several hundred people in the first year. The service will be available at the city office. The terminals will be distributed mainly in the form of magnetic clips that can be wrapped around a staff or attached to shoes. The monthly fee for the service is expected to be several hundred yen. While the routes to and from school are fixed for children to some extent, it has been difficult for the elderly to read the range of their activities. The city of Minoh began a verification experiment in 2016 by distributing monitoring terminals to elementary and junior high school students, and in 2005 expanded the scope of the experiment to include the elderly. The "Plarail 60th Anniversary Exhibition," which is being held by TOMY at the Railway Museum (Omiya-ku, Saitama City) untilSeptember 1, is a great success. It has become so popular that 60% of the visitors to the museum also visit the exhibition. In addition to the diorama of the E5 Series Shinkansen Hayabusa, more than 150 items of Plarail are on display. Visitors can learn about the history and manufacturing process of Plarail. The exhibition is open to the public only with the admission fee to the Railway Museum. Plarail was launched in 1959 as a toy made of plastic, the latest material at the time, when metal and wooden toys were the mainstream. As of the end of January 2007, a cumulative total of about 1,480 types and more than 169 million units have been sold in Japan.                       OSAKA, Japan - Sanyo Electric Co. said Aug. 6 it will release plasma-display television sets (in handout photo) equipped with built-in tuners for terrestrial digital broadcasts for the first time.
