Kyoto University prof. Yamanaka receives German Cancer Award

BERLIN, Germany - Kyoto University professor Shinya Yamanaka (file photo) was presented with the annual Meyenburg German Cancer Award from the German Cancer Research Center on Nov. 26. Yamanaka has succeeded in reprogramming human skin cells to behave like embryonic stem cells. (Kyodo)

        Takao Doi, a Japanese astronaut and a program-specific professor at Kyoto University, speaks about the world's first-ever wooden satellite "LignoSat" during an interview in Kyoto, western Japan, on May 28, 2024. Scientists at Kyoto University and Tokyo-based wood products company Sumitomo Forestry Co. developed the spacecraft, a cube with 10-centimeter sides and weighing 1 kilogram.(Kyodo)

Air pressure is used to make the stick-shaped, gelatin-based gummy jiggle on the 3D-printed mug. The robot was developed to study the effects of eating food that looks like it is alive on human psychology.
