LDP lawmaker Fukuda to run for Iwakuni mayor over U.S. base row

IWAKUNI, Japan - Yoshihiko Fukuda, a House of Representatives member of the governing Liberal Democratic Party, announced Jan. 5 he will be running in the mayoral election next month in Iwakuni city following requests from local legislators and businesses supporting the U.S. plan to relocate jet fighters to the city in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
