Japanese naval flag returning home 7 decades after end of WWII
The flagship Mikasa, shown in this undated file photo taken in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, southwest of Tokyo, led a Japanese naval fleet that defeated the Russian Baltic Fleet in the Russo-Japanese War in the early 1990s. It was learned on Aug. 4, 2015, that a naval flag believed to belong to the Japanese battleship Asahi that was sent off to the war is to be returned to Japan soon from a former U.S. Marine Corps officer who took it away from the flagship shortly after the end of World War II.
