Japan-S. Korea "comfort women" deal revives Filipino victims' hopes

Isabelita Vinuya, 84, president of the Filipino "comfort women" group Malaya Lolas (Free Grandmothers), speaks to reporters in Manila on Jan. 6, 2016, about their reaction to the recent Japan-South Korea agreement regarding Korean victims of Japanese wartime sexual slavery. Vinuya said the deal revived their hope to get justice from Japan through a formal apology and legal compensation, with the same hope that the Philippine government and President Benigno Aquino will back them, as South Korea did.
