Coral reef is recovering in Suruga Bay
Photo taken on Dec. 21, 2019, shows colonies of the coral Acropora tenuis in Suruga Bay in the Pacific off Numazu, Shizuoka Prefecture, central Japan. The coral reef, considered on the verge of extinction in 2001 due mainly to a deep freeze in 1996, is showing signs of recovering after 20 years of preservation activities led by Tokai University researchers.
