10 years after Great East Japan Earthquake
Photo shows the monument to the "Miracle Pine," a lone tree that survived in a coastal forest flattened by the March 11, 2011, deadly tsunami, in Rikuzentakata, northeastern Japan, on March 9, 2021, two days before the 10th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake. The tree, which later died of exposure to saltwater, is now preserved in a memorial as a symbol of hope for the region.
