Japan to be elected nonpermanent U.N. Security Council member
Motohide Yoshikawa, Japanese ambassador to the United Nations, speaks to the press at U.N. Headquarters in New York on Jan. 29, 2015. Japan will be elected as a nonpermanent member of the U.N. Security Council by the General Assembly in October since the Asia-Pacific group decided the same day to endorse Japan as its candidate. It will be the 11th time for Japan to serve as a nonpermanent member. (Kyodo)
