Nuke bomb firing from Okinawa ordered by mistake during Cuban crisis
Former U.S. Air Force engineer John Bordne, shown in this photo taken in Wilkes-Barre in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania on Aug. 30, 2014, reveals that an order to fire four nuclear bombs from Okinawa, southwestern Japan, against the Soviet Union and other targets was issued by mistake during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. An officer in charge judged that the order was a mistake, avoiding a disastrous consequence at the last minute, according to Bordne. (Kyodo)
