Palau preparing for Japanese imperial couple's visit
Photo taken March 24, 2015, from a helicopter chartered by Kyodo News shows a cenotaph (C) erected by the Japanese government in 1985 on Peleliu Island, Palau. On the island, an estimated 10,000 Japanese soldiers died in a fierce battle with U.S. forces in 1944. The cenotaph was repaired recently in time for a visit to Palau by Japan's Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko in April 2015. (Kyodo)
