Corruption crackdown forces halt to liquor project in China's Shanxi
A construction site remains deserted in Luliang, Shanxi Province, on Feb. 11, 2015, after suspension of work intended to build a humungous plant for the production of Chinese "baijiu," a strong distilled spirit considered as a luxury. Senior local officials and industry leaders involved were detained amid the Chinese government leadership's crackdown on corruption. The plant had been a main project in the province's economic reform to rid itself of dependence on the coal mining industry. (Kyodo)
