Nobel laureate Akasaki honored by alma mater Kyoto Univ.
Isamu Akasaki, one of the 2014 Nobel physics prize winners behind the invention of energy-efficient blue light-emitting diodes, receives an honorary doctorate from his alma mater, Kyoto University, in the western Japanese city on May 15, 2015. Akasaki graduated from the university's science department in 1952. (Kyodo)
