WWII Japanese soldier's picture journal found in Matsue
Photo taken in February 1944 shows Toshio Yasugi before his deployment to Chichijima, the biggest island of the Ogasawara chain in the Pacific Ocean, in March 1944 during World War II. His journal with drawings depicting life on the island has been found at his daughter Hisae's home in Matsue, Shimane Prefecture, western Japan. He wrote up the journal after returning to Matsue based on detailed notes he kept while stationed on the island. (Kyodo)
