WWII landing on Chichijima depicted in picture journal
Photo shows part of Toshio Yasugi's picture journal depicting Japanese troops landing on Chichijima, the biggest island of the Ogasawara chain in the Pacific Ocean, in March 1944 during World War II. Yasugi was stationed on the island as a member of the Japanese infantry during and shortly after the war. The journal has been kept at the home of Yasugi's daughter Hisae in Matsue, Shimane Prefecture, western Japan. (Kyodo)
