Control room in Tokyo for new weather satellite shown to press
Staff members of the Japan Meteorological Agency monitor footage delivered from the country's next-generation weather satellite Himawari-8 at its data management center in Tokyo during a press preview on June 24, 2015, ahead of the official start of operations in July. The geostationary satellite, launched in October 2014, is capable of sending color images for the first time and is expected to improve the accuracy of weather forecasts related to natural disasters.
