Japanese university academics meet to protest security bills
Professors and other academics at Seinan Gakuin University in Fukuoka, southwestern Japan, hold a meeting on July 16, 2015, to protest against the House of Representatives' passage of controversial national security bills aimed at expanding the Self-Defense Forces' role in international activities. About 50 academics, nearly a quarter of the university's teaching staff, signed a statement criticizing the bills, which they said would pave the way for creating "a nation that can wage war."
