Memorial service held in Osaka for victims of 1945 U.S. "Pumpkin" bombs

A group of junior high school students offers prayers in front of a monument in Osaka, western Japan, on July 26, 2015, in memory of victims of U.S. "Pumpkin bombs," which resembled the atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki but which carried conventional explosives. Such bombs were dropped across Japan mainly for testing and training purposes in the last one month before the country's surrender in World War II. A total of 49 test bombs were believed to have been dropped in 18 prefectures, killing over 400 people. (Kyodo) ==Kyodo
