            File photo shows Chiune Sugihara (1900-1986), a Japanese diplomat who helped thousands of Jews escape Nazi persecution during World War II. In June 2015, the central Japanese town of Yaotsu, the hometown of "Japan's Schindler," in Gifu Prefecture started the process of seeking to have documents associated with Sugihara inscribed on UNESCO's Memory of the World register.
