People pray for prosperity by sticking coins on tuna
Visitors to Nishinomiya Shrine, known as the head shrine of the Ebisu deity of economic fortune, in the western Japan city of Nishinomiya, attach coins onto a large tuna on Jan. 8, 2016 in hope of gaining more money in the coming year. A fishery cooperative in nearby Kobe began offering a tuna to the shrine in 1970 at New Year to pray for a bumper catch. (Kyodo)
