Taiwan president eyes visit to S. China Sea island
Undated photo shows outgoing Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou. The Presidential Office said Jan. 27, 2016, that Ma will visit a Taiwan-controlled Taiping Island in the South China Sea the following day. The move immediately drew criticism from the United States, with the U.S. representative office in Taipei calling it "extremely unhelpful" and saying it does not contribute to the peaceful resolution of disputes in the South China Sea.
