Emperor, empress lay flowers for Japanese WWII dead in Philippines
Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko lay flowers at a monument in honor of Japanese who died in the Philippines in World War II, in Caliraya, southeast of Manila, on Jan. 29, 2016. It is the first visit by a Japanese emperor and empress to the Southeast Asian country, where around 1.1 million Filipinos and around 518,000 Japanese soldiers and civilians died in the war.
