Hokkaido village sets up frozen jeans to seek Guinness recognition
People erect pairs of jeans, frozen after being soaked in water and then exposed to the bitter cold outside, in the snow in Sarabetsu village in Japan's northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido on Feb. 21, 2016 in an attempt to gain recognition from Guinness World Records for the most number of frozen jeans on display. A total of 295 pairs of frozen jeans were lined up by around 120 participants during the event. Freezing jeans in cold weather and displaying them is said to have started in the U.S. state of Minnesota when it was hit by a cold spell this winter. (Kyodo)
