Kin needn't compensate railway in death of demented man
Photo taken Feb. 9, 2016, shows JR Kyowa Station in the central Japan city of Obu, where a 91-year-old man with dementia went onto the train tracks and was struck by a Central Japan Railway Co. train in 2007, after slipping outside without the knowledge of his wife. The Supreme Court ruled on March 1, 2016, that his family cannot be held responsible and required to compensate JR Central for damages sustained after the accident. (Kyodo)
