Ceremony held for new ground force unit on westernmost Japanese island

Japan Ground Self-Defense Force personnel take part in a ceremony on the country's westernmost island of Yonaguni, Okinawa Prefecture, on March 28, 2016, to mark the establishment of a new GSDF unit on the remote island. Comprised of about 160 members, the unit is expected to keep a close watch on Chinese maritime activities, particularly around the Japan-administered Senkaku Islands, which Beijing claims.
