Public wake up to benefits of pay phones after teen flees confinement
Photo taken March 27, 2016, shows the pay phone at JR Higashinakano Station in Tokyo, which was used by a 15-year-old girl in calling 110 that day to contact police after escaping a two-year confinement by a man who abducted her. The case brought to light the helpfulness of a pay phone in times of emergency, as it is possible to dial the police, fire brigade and emergency medical services for free if it is from a pay phone.
